Rhodes Scholars typically spend two or more years in the United Kingdom and are eligible to pursue most full-time postgraduate courses in a wide range of disciplines offered by the University of Oxford.

The Rhodes Scholarship provides comprehensive financial support for Scholars to pursue full-time postgraduate study at the University of Oxford. It covers the full course fees at Oxford and includes an annual stipend to support living expenses. For the 2024/25 academic year, the stipend is £19,800 per annum (equivalent to £1,650 per month), which Scholars use to cover accommodation and daily living costs. It is important to note that this amount is intended for individual Scholars and is not sufficient to support partners or dependents.

The Scholarship’s duration and permitted combinations of degrees are outlined in the official Conditions of Tenure document. For instance, Scholars undertaking a DPhil (PhD) may receive funding for up to three years, including course fees and the annual stipend.

In addition to the academic and living support, the Rhodes Trust covers several other essential costs for Scholars selected for the award. These include:

The University of Oxford application fee

Fees for the UK student visa and the International Health Surcharge (IHS), which provides access to the UK’s National Health Service

Two economy-class flights—one to the UK at the start of the program and one returning home at the end

Upon arrival in Oxford, Scholars are also provided with a settling-in allowance. Furthermore, those who continue to a second course of study at Oxford are eligible for support with visa renewal fees and additional IHS costs.
