The Fellowship uniquely bridges the gap between high-level academic theory, rigorous field-level clinical research, and commercial pharmaceutical or medical industry exposure. Up to twelve fellowships are available for the 2026 cohort, distributing two fellows to each of the six prominent African health research institutions involved: Haramaya University in Ethiopia, Kintampo Health Research Centre in Ghana, the Medical Research Council (MRC) Unit in The Gambia, the MRC/UVRI and LSHTM Uganda Research Unit in Uganda, Zambart in Zambia, and the Biomedical Research and Training Institute (BRTI) in Zimbabwe.

The selection process is highly competitive, focusing on academic merit, the depth of previous professional research, and long-term career vision. Applicants must provide a comprehensive personal statement detailing their motivation, their preference between the Clinical Trials or Epidemiology tracks, and a clear outline of how they intend to deploy this specialized training to advance health outcomes in their home countries post-graduation. The application portal closes on May 29,2026 with virtual interviews scheduled for July 2026 ahead of the official program launch in October 2026.
