RWJF Culture of Health Prize 2023 is calling for Applications. The RWJF Culture of Health Prize honors the work of communities where people and organizations are collaborating to advance health, opportunity, and equity for all. In 2023, RWJF will select up to 10 winning communities through a competitive selection process to receive a range of resources and support.

The RWJF Culture of Health Prize celebrates communities across the country where people and organizations are collaborating to build positive solutions to barriers that have created unequal opportunities for health and well-being. The Prize serves to inspire others to take action and create a healthier future for everyone’s children and grandchildren.

RWJF wants to live in a United States where everyone has a fair and just opportunity to reach their best health and well-being no matter their race, ethnicity, ZIP code, or socioeconomic status. Across the country, people are working together to make this vision a reality.

RWJF is dedicated to building a Culture of Health that provides everyone in America a fair and just opportunity for health and well-being. They take our responsibilities seriously, and they pledge to work in ways that reflect our values.

RWJF creates grants and grant programs that inspire bold ideas, encourage creative solutions, and demonstrate transformative potential. They also work to identify new approaches that would bring about meaningful change and broaden the discussion about health equity. Perhaps most importantly, they view evaluation and learning as the cornerstone of our approach to philanthropy. They believe deeply in the value of sharing key insights from our grantmaking—what worked, what didn’t, and why.

RWJF believes a national Culture of Health grounded in health equity must reflect the following underlying principles:

  • Every individual, family, and community are seen as deserving of health and well-being.
  • Health is considered a shared responsibility within our society.
  • America’s national narrative acknowledges that health and well-being are impacted by injustice, systemic racism, and inequities in social and economic conditions.
  • Everyone, no matter their background, has access to the resources they need to create conditions that support good health and well-being.
  • All families—no matter who they are, where they live, or how much money they make—should have the resources they need to help their children grow up healthy.
  • Healthcare, public health, and social services work together to fully address the goals and needs of the people they serve.
  • Public Policy and decision-making in the private industry are guided by the goal of ensuring everyone has a fair and just opportunity for health and well-being.
  • Communities, regardless of income or geography, have the power, agency, and resources to create and implement their own solutions to the unique health issues facing them.
  • Health data, research, and measures prioritize collecting information by race, age, ethnicity, sex, geographic region, and other relevant factors, to advance health equity for all.
  • No one is excluded.
