The goal is to find those who can envisage the implementation of policy, enrich public debate, and influence public decision-making with a view to sovereign and sustainable development. The aim of the prize is to:
- Highlight original work deeply rooted in the continent’s issues
- Facilitate the circulation of research among public- and private-sector decision makers
- Inspire a new generation to engage in economic research
The prize will be awarded during the Africa CEO Forum, to be held in Kigali on 14-15 May 2026. Candidates will be shortlisted based on an independent review by the Foundation for Studies and Research on International Development (Ferdi), in collaboration with the editorial teams of Jeune Afrique and The Africa Report. Nominees will then be submitted to a jury vote.

The Africa Report is one of the continent’s leading news organisations, known for an impartial, authoritative stance. Founded in 2004 from Béchir Ben Yahmed’s ambition to move African media beyond colonial-era silos, they have evolved into a trusted voice on African political and economic affairs. They are unapologetically selective – focusing on the core economies and system-shaping institutions, from central banks and regulators to investors and political coalitions. They track how power is exercised and how capital moves, then explain why it matters.
The Africa Report is published by Jeune Afrique Media Group (JAMG), the premier publishing and events company in Africa. JAMG produces Jeune Afrique and the leading continental business meetings, the Africa CEO Forum and the Africa Financial Summit.
