The IHE Delft Water and Development Partnership Program is an international academic initiative designed to strengthen knowledge, skills, and leadership in the field of water and sustainable development. It is hosted by the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education in the Netherlands, one of the world’s leading institutions dedicated exclusively to water education and research. The program is supported by collaboration with the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and focuses on building professional capacity in regions facing significant water-related challenges.

The MSc in Water and Sustainable Development under this program is structured to prepare students to understand, analyze, and address complex water issues in a rapidly changing global environment. The curriculum combines scientific knowledge with practical applications, allowing students to engage with real-world water challenges such as climate change, water scarcity, environmental degradation, and sustainable resource management. - The scholarship covers the complete tuition fee for the MSc programme, removing the financial burden of academic expenses. This allows students to fully concentrate on coursework, research, and skill development without worrying about education costs.
- Selected students will receive health insurance coverage during their stay in the Netherlands, ensuring access to necessary medical services and providing safety and peace of mind throughout the study period.
- The program includes coverage of international travel costs, helping students travel from their home country to the Netherlands and back (as per program rules), making overseas study more accessible.
- A monthly stipend of €1,220 is provided to support essential living expenses such as accommodation, food, transport, and daily needs while studying in Delft.
- Students gain entry into an international network of water professionals, researchers, and experts, creating opportunities for collaboration, career development, and global exposure in the water sector.
- Participants are given access to seminars, workshops, and structured learning networks that enhance both academic understanding and practical skills, connecting classroom learning with real-world water challenges.
Eligibilities
- Academic admission to the MSc Program in Water and Sustainable Development
- Living and/or working in one of the eligible countries.
- Agree to conduct MSc research in their country/region associated with one of the projects implemented by the Program.
- Active participation in and contribution to the seminars organized for the learning networks of the Program.
- Confirmation to return to the country of origin or other priority country of the program.
- Employer statement: One of the two recommendation letters that you are requested to upload as part of your application for admission should be a letter from your current employer, which has the following requirements:
- Should be on official letterhead
- Should be dated and signed
- Should state the following:
- Explain how the obtained knowledge and skills of the applicant will contribute to the activities and performance of the organization.
- Confirm that the applicant will return to the organization after completing the MSc study at IHE.
- Indicate in which project(s) funded by the Water and Development Partnership Program the organization is involved in (if any).
- Only if one of the two recommendation letters meets these requirements, you will be eligible to take part in the selection for a scholarship through the Water and Development Partnership Programme (WDPP)
Application Process
- Applicants must first apply for admission to the MSc Programme in Water and Sustainable Development at IHE Delft
- There is no separate scholarship application form required
- Once you apply for the MSc programme, you are automatically considered for the Sahel, MENA, and Horn of Africa scholarships (if you meet eligibility criteria)
- During the admission application, you must indicate your interest in the scholarship track
- Applicants must ensure that all required documents (including English language proof) are submitted before the deadline
- Only candidates who receive academic admission to the MSc programme will be considered for the scholarship selection process
- Selected candidates are informed according to the official timeline after evaluation
- Applicants from Kenya, Nigeria, and Uganda are exempt from submitting an English Test score.
