Call for One Young World Ilia Calderón Scholarship 2024 is open now!!! 

Following the success of the Ilia Calderón Scholarship in 2021, 2022, and 2023, One Young World has once again partnered with the Jang Calderón Family Foundation to support young Afro-descendant or Indigenous leaders, between the ages of 18 and 30, who are leading innovative and impactful initiatives in Latin America and the Caribbean. The Ilia Calderón Scholarship will select and fund the participation of two Afro-descendant or Indigenous leaders who will be able to travel to attend the One Young World 2024 Summit in Montreal, Canada.

The annual One Young World Summit convenes the brightest young leaders from 190+ countries and 250+ organisations, working to accelerate social impact. 

Delegates participate in four transformative days of speeches, workshops and networking. Throughout the Summit, Delegates are counselled by influential political, business, and humanitarian leaders such as President Mary Robinson, Rio Ferdinand and Professor Muhammad Yunus.

Once the Summit is over, Delegates graduate as One Young World Ambassadors, returning to their workplaces and communities with the means and motivation to make a difference. Since 2010, One Young World Ambassador projects have impacted the lives of over 41.56 million people.

The next One Young World Summit will take place in Montréal, Canada, in September 2024. Montréal is a vibrant and multicultural city, known for its rich history, culture, and innovation. It is also home to many global organisations, such as the United Nations, UNESCO, and the International Civil Aviation Organization. Montréal is the perfect place to host the One Young World Summit, as it offers a diverse and inspiring environment for young leaders to connect, learn, and collaborate.

Benefits

What does the scholarship provide?

  • Access to the One Young World Summit 2024 in Montreal.
  • Hotel accommodation in a private room between 18 and 21 (inclusive) September, 2024.
  • The cost of travel to and from Montreal (economy class).
  • Domestic travel costs to the airport to take the international flight (economy class).
  • Visa costs, if applicable.
  • Transport between the Summit accommodation and the Summit venue.
  • Catering which includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner (provided by the hotel and during the Summit).
  • Translation services from English to Spanish in the plenary sessions, welcome and closing event.

Eligibilities

Candidates must be:

  • Aged 18 – 30 at the time of the One Young World Summit 2024 which takes place in Montreal, Canada from 18 – 21 September 2024.
  • Eligible Nationalities: Colombia, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Panama, Honduras, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Cuba, Dominica, Guyana, Grenada, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Brazil.

Candidates will also be evaluated on the following:

  • Demonstrate commitment and potential benefits for the communities or territories to which they belong.
  • Relevance of the initiatives to which he/she leads or he/she participates.
  • Demonstrated capacity for leadership.
  • Address key local and/or global issues in their community or territories.
  • Have a track record of generating impactful and innovative ideas.
  • Motivation to participate in One Young World.
