The 2023 Wisden Cricket Photograph of the Year competition is now open for entries!

The Wisden Photograph of the Year was launched in 2010. It is open to all photographers – amateur and professional – from across the world, and the only stipulations are that entries must have been taken during the year of the competition, and in some respect have a cricket theme.

The previous year’s winner was Matthew Lewis, who submitted a photo of Nottinghamshire players and coaches caught in a Trent Bridge snowstorm. It was deemed a “very unusual and humorous picture” by the judges. The competition seeks to support and promote cricket in all of its manifestations around the world, from a street game between kids to an international match performed in front of thousands of spectators. The sole requirements for this year’s competition  are that the photos must be of crickets and must have been shot in 2023.

The editor of Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack, Lawrence Booth, said: “It has been another memorable year for cricket, with men’s and women’s world cups and Ashes series. Following the high standard of entries in recent years, we can’t wait to see what the game’s photographers have come up with in 2023.”

The first three colour photos in the 2024 Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack will be the best photos from the 2023 tournament. The three winning photos and the seven shortlisted shots will be on public exhibition in a gallery located in the foyer beneath the Galadari stand at The Kia Oval cricket field for a maximum of twelve months.

The Sunday Times’ former chief sports photographer Chris Smith will preside over the impartial judging panel. The esteemed cricket photographer Patrick Eagar, manager of photography and video Clare Adams, and former art director of The Wisden Cricketer Nigel Davies are also on the panel. Winners will be announced in March 2024.
