Voices of Mutirão celebrates the power of communities and cities to transform themselves through collective action and capacity-building. Urban spaces are constantly evolving, shaped by the everyday efforts of residents, organizations, and local leaders. These changes can be small, like neighbors planting community gardens, painting murals, or organizing local clean-ups, or larger, such as developing partnerships, expanding access to essential services, creating safer streets, or designing greener public spaces. Together, these initiatives contribute to more sustainable, inclusive, and vibrant cities, fostering urban environments that are equitable, resilient, and liveable for all.

This year, the contest is aligned with the 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 30), hosted under the Brazilian Presidency. COP 30 has embraced the concept of a Global Mutirão—a term derived from the Tupi-Guarani language meaning collective effort toward a shared goal—as its symbol. The Global Mutirão emphasizes the importance of connecting local actions to city-wide plans, city plans to national strategies, and national strategies to global objectives. By creating this chain of action, individual and neighborhood-level initiatives can contribute meaningfully to larger sustainability and climate goals worldwide.

Capacity-building strengthens local networks, encourages collaboration, and ensures that cities are shaped by the people who live in them, rather than imposed from outside.

Voices of Mutirão seeks to hear the stories of individuals, groups, and organizations driving change in their cities. How are you and your partners working together to tackle local challenges? Participants are invited to share these inspiring efforts through a 60-second video pitch. By showcasing the impact of capacity-building and community-driven initiatives, Voices of Mutirão amplifies local action, inspires others, and highlights how everyday urban transformation contributes to global climate action and the wider Global Mutirão.
