The HUAWEI XMAGE Awards 2025, launched on June 11, 2025, at the unveiling of the Huawei Pura 80 smartphone series, invites global creators to showcase the power of mobile imaging through their lenses. Now in its eighth year since inception in 2017, the competition has amassed nearly five million submissions from users in 170 countries and regions, solidifying its rank among the most influential mobile photography contests worldwide.

This year’s Awards expand both scope and innovation. Participants can submit entries across eight dynamic categories: ‘So Far So Close’, ‘Good Night’, ‘Colour & Shade’, alongside returning favorites such as ‘Faces’, ‘A Heartwarming World’, ‘Experimental Lab’, ‘Storyboard’ and ‘Action’. A new feature for 2025 is the XMAGE 100—an elite cohort of 100 specially recognized works handpicked from 1,000 shortlisted submissions. Additionally, three photographers will be crowned Photographers of the Year.
Judging responsibilities rest with a distinguished panel of nine professionals spanning photojournalism, academia, visual arts, and curatorial leadership. Esteemed members include Pulitzer Prize–winning photojournalist, Liu Heung Shing, Xinhua News Agency editor and imaging researcher, Chen Xiaobo, Central Academy of Fine Arts professor, Wang Chuan, documentary photographer, Chen Jie, visual sociologist, Nichole Fernandez, Paris Photo director, Florence Bourgeois, The Photographers’ Gallery director, Shoair Mavlian, visual arts curator, Fannie Escoulen and Huawei Health’s CSO, Li Changzhu.
