Call for submissions for the 2024 Ideal Urban Futures Competition!
Climate change affects nearly every aspect of our lives, livelihoods, our health and our future. It is important for young people to understand how the climate is changing, so that we can prepare for the future. It’s time to cut carbon and improve health in our cities!
How have your health and wellbeing been affected by climate change?
What are the solutions to the effects of climate change in your city?
What does an ‘IDEAL URBAN FUTURE’ look like to you?
(One in which the causes and effects of climate change have been successfully addressed).
Use your art, graphic design, or photography to address the impact of climate change on health, propose solutions for your city, or envision an Ideal Urban Future. If you’re between 13-35 years old and passionate about art, design, or photography this is your chance to shine!
In Zimbabwe, youth must take the lead in energising efforts to create net-zero cities and to plan wholesome, sustainable cities of the future. Talented young Zimbabweans were invited to submit design or musical entries for the Art of Health Competition in 2021, which was organised in association with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine Centre on Climate Change and Planetary Health and the Children, Cities and Climate project. The theme of the competition was “The air we breathe in Zimbabwe’s cities.” They were able to voice their opinions on their city, the air they breathe, and the possible advantages of better air quality for the health and general well-being of young Zimbabweans through the competition.
Winning entries of 2021 were presented to global audiences at the Conference of Youth (COY16) which took place in Glasgow, Scotland in October 2021. COY16 took place just before COP26, the UN Climate Change conference in November 2021, and brought together thousands of young change-makers from more than 140 countries to discuss pressing climate issues.
