Call for The doctoral dissertation research fellowship 2024 is open now!!

In Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda, the Social Scientific Research Council offers fellowships to encourage the completion of doctoral degrees and to advance next-generation social scientific research. The grants support dissertation research on peace, security, and development subjects.

In order to refresh basic research agendas and build multidisciplinary social science research capacity addressing these concerns, the program has a thematic focus on peace, security, and development. The program promotes creative inquiry into issues of peace, security, and development, pushing the bounds of scholarly inquiry and study by examining actual connections between these themes. They plan to fund a wide range of initiatives that make use of empirical research to provide insight into various economic, political, social, conflict, and peace-building processes.

They hope that some initiatives will look at large-scale phenomena while others will focus on small-scale social processes. The best projects will usually look for linkages between these scales. Several studies will thoroughly examine civil society, human rights, peace-building institutions, rule of law, and governance components. Others will look at the fundamental reasons behind conflict, human insecurity, new conflict trajectories and forms, insecurities, and human mobilities. Above all, projects should enhance critical domains of inquiry and knowledge in the social sciences.
