Call for Show Abilities Uganda Amaani Fund 2024 is open now!!! 

Show Abilities Uganda, in partnership with Global Human Rights, extends an invitation to groups of 5-10 Youth with Disabilities (YWDs) aged 16-29 in Eastern and Northern Uganda to participate in the AMAANI FUND. This initiative aims to support impactful business and advocacy endeavors or innovative business ideas within the same district.

Show Abilities Uganda (SAU) an umbrella organization of Youth with Disabilities in Uganda. It was established in 2003 as a youth wing within NUDIPU (National Union of Persons with Disabilities) to bring together different categories of YWDs for a unified voice. SAU independently registered in July 2019 as a company limited by guarantee by the Uganda Registration Services Bureau. SAU targets YWDs between the age of 18-30 years and works in collaboration with organizations of persons with disabilities to advocate for the inclusion of youth with disabilities in all development programs.

The Fund for Global Human Rights is a leading supporter of on-the-ground human rights groups around the world. Dedicated to finding and funding the most effective human rights organizations in regions from Latin America to Africa to Southeast Asia, the Fund for Global Human Rights offers grants and facilitates technical support to ensure the long-term effectiveness and viability of frontline groups working in challenging conditions with scant resources. 

The Children and Youth Rights Program (CYP) is a multi-region grant-making initiative to resource and connect community-based and youth-led groups to build power and agency of children and young people, tackle violence and discrimination, and influence change in the world around them.   

Show Abilities Uganda with support from the Fund for Global Human Rights is working with a panel of young people to identify and support grassroots youth with disability led groups based and working in Eastern and Northern Uganda that have had difficulty accessing traditional opportunities for funding. SAU defines these groups as those led by youth with disabilities aged between 16-29 years. To be accessible and reach these organizations and activists, SAU will also accept hand-written or audio applications in English.

Eligibilities

  • Youth with Disabilities in groups, encompassing mental, physical, sensory, and intellectual disabilities.
  • Applicants must be from Eastern and Northern Uganda.
  • Age group: 16-29 years.

Application Process

  • Submission guidelines: Any intending group can submit their application by; (filling in the provided gaps – handwritten (hard copies), or applying through the online form or using a separate paper but answering the same questions (handwritten), or a recorded video/ Audio answering the same questions.
  • REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:
    1. Registration certificate of the group or a recommendation letter from LC1 validating the group’s existence.
    2. Copies of National IDs for each group member.

  • Complete the template by hand, type, or utilize alternative methods such as video, voice notes, and braille for individuals with visual impairments.

  • MULTILINGUAL AND INCLUSIVE SUBMISSIONS:
    • Applicants are encouraged to submit proposals in any language that is comfortable for them.
    • Alternative submission formats such as video, voice notes, and braille are welcomed, especially for individuals with visual impairments.
