The Swedish Institute provides funding for joint projects in which Swedish organisations meet transnational challenges together with organisations from the Baltic Sea Region countries and the countries of the Eastern Partnership.
The Swedish Institute seeks to strengthen Sweden’s relations and develop cooperation with the countries around the Baltic Sea and in immediate area.
The Swedish Institute is a public agency that promotes interest and trust in Sweden around the world. They work in the fields of culture, education, science and business to strengthen international relations and development.
The Swedish Institute’s core activities involve: Analysing how foreign target groups perceive Sweden, and how this affects opportunities for Swedish actors abroad.Providing expert support to both private and public actors wishing to communicate the image of Sweden and Swedish skills.
The Swedish Institute is a public agency with a staff of approximately 140 employees with offices in Stockholm and Paris. SI is headed by a director-general, who oversees four departments, each with special competences for different areas of operation.

- An ecologically sustainable region: projects relating to the environment and sustainable development.
- Sustainable growth for increased prosperity: business-related projects and projects dealing for instance with innovation, regional development or tourism.
- Regional challenges: projects relating to society such as ones involving social issues, public health or civil security.

Eligibilities
- Swedish organisations can apply for funding from the Swedish Institute in order to cooperate with organisations in the Baltic Sea Region countries and organisations in the EU’s Eastern Partnership countries.
- The main applicant has to be based in Sweden.
- The application must include at least three actors in three different countries eligible for support, one of which is Sweden (as main applicant).
- A project can run for no longer than 18 months.
- The project activities that the Swedish Institute supports via ‘seed funding’ must be clearly linked to one or more of the challenges identified in the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region.
- The projects should help create conditions for long-term, sustainable relations in the region.
- The following Swedish actors from the public, private and non-profit sectors can apply for seed funding and establish a partnership:
- Non-governmental organisations
- Business companies
- Local authorities, regional authorities, regional development councils and county councils
- Higher education institutions and research institutes
- Intergovernmental organisations
- Business and trade organisations
- Central government agencies
