Call for Canadian Hillman Prizes 2026 is open now !!!
The Canadian Hillman Prizes honor excellence in journalism in service of the common good. The Hillman Prizes seek out investigative reporting that draws attention to social or economic injustice and leads to meaningful public policy change. They strive to recognize discernment of a significant news story, resourcefulness and courage in reporting, skill in relating the story and the impact of the coverage.
Starting in 2024, the foundation now award three Canadian Hillman Prizes instead of one. The judges will select entries in the following categories: print/digital, broadcast (tv, radio, podcast), and local/community news (in any medium/format). Entries must have been published in Canada in 2025 and have been widely accessible to a Canadian audience. Self-published work is not eligible. There is no fee to enter. There is no limit to the number of entries one journalist, publication or outlet may enter.

Since 1950, the Sidney Hillman Foundation has honored journalists, writers, and public figures who pursue investigative journalism and public policy in the service of the common good. Sidney Hillman was the founding president of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America, a predecessor union of Workers United, SEIU. Sidney Hillman, an architect of the New Deal, fought to build a vibrant union movement extending beyond the shop floor to all aspects of working people’s lives.
The Sidney Hillman Foundation has sought to illuminate the great issues of the day—from the search for a basis for lasting peace, to the need for better housing, medical care, and employment security for all people, the promotion of civil liberties, democracy, and the battle against discrimination based on race, nationality, or religion.
