WWF Nepal Conservation Awards 2023 is now receiving applications. Introduced as the Abraham Conservation Awards by Ms. Nancy Abraham in 1995—an environmentalist struck by the dedication and passion for conservation displayed by a national park staff—the awards sought to recognize exemplary individuals and organizations working in conservation.
The award is now recognized as the WWF Nepal Conservation Awards, which seeks to continue this legacy by honoring grassroots conservationists that have made a significant contribution to protecting Nepal’s rich biodiversity.
The awards cover a range of themes in conservation and natural resource management and aim to motivate and inspire frontline conservationists. Over 180 individuals and institutions have been recognized since the inception of the awards.
WWF Nepal welcomes nominations for WWF Nepal – Conservation Awards 2023 from Nepali individuals and/or organizations registered in Nepal and working in conservation and natural resource management. The nominations will need to reflect illustrious accomplishments and innovations in biodiversity conservation, climate change and pollution, sustainable development, environmental education, youth engagement, environmental crime control, and media and journalism.
Globally, WWF supports countries in implementing national climate adaptation plans and policies to ensure socio-ecological resilience through nature-based solutions policies, projects, and initiatives. WWF also supports countries in reducing energy demands through improved energy efficiency, expansion of renewable energy, and access to clean energy.
WWF Nepal has supported the formulation of the National Climate Change Policy 2019, to conduct landscape-level vulnerability assessments for the Terai Arc Landscape and Chitwan Annapurna Landscape, and the formulation of the climate-smart Snow Leopard and Ecosystem Management Plan for the Eastern Himalayan Landscape.
WWF firmly believes people and nature are inextricably linked. The mission of WWF is to stop the degradation of the planet’s natural environment and build a future in Nepal in which people live in harmony with nature.
WWF’s roots in Nepal extend back to 1967 when WWF first launched a rhino conservation program in Chitwan.
