Earth Journalism Network (EJN) is an Internews and Internews Europe project. Internews is an international non-profit organization.
The Science Journalists Association of India, or SJAI, is a professional body of science journalists and communicators in India. As of March 2023, it has over sixty members across the length and breadth of the country.
Officially registered as a society in September 2021, and recognised as a member of the World Federation of Science Journalists in March 2022, the SJAI has been several years in the making.
Among the stated aims and objectives of the SJAI are:
- To be an organization providing a strong voice to science journalists of India
- To promote deeper understanding of science-related issues among State authorities, media houses and academics, and to make them aware of the vital importance of dissemination of scientific knowledge and information
- To strengthen independence, quality and reach of science journalism across all media – print, television, online and others
- To campaign for coverage exclusively dedicated to science in all media streams – print, television and online
- To secure as a matter of right, access to all public-funded research, push for greater transparency, and facilitate members’ access to scientific journals – Indian and foreign
- To institute an endowment for giving annual awards for excellence in science journalism and strive for inclusion of science as a category in existing journalism awards
- To create a database of sources of latest information on science
- To organize conferences, seminars, symposia, workshops and informal meets on topics of interest to peers
- To provide perspective to newsrooms about the importance, urgency and topicality of subjects relating to science
- To support regional language media houses in investigative science stories
- To recommend media houses to adopt guidelines for covering science
- To ensure that science journalists from diverse communities and identities get equitable opportunities and resources
- To mentor new entrants in science journalism to set up their own personal websites and social media.
India is the world’s third-largest energy consumer, and its energy demand is growing rapidly. The country’s current energy mix is dominated by fossil fuels, but there is a growing focus on renewable energy. India has committed to meeting 50% of its energy requirements with renewable energy, reducing its projected carbon emissions by one billion metric tons, and reducing the emissions intensity of its GDP by 45% by 2030.
To improve public awareness of these ambitious energy targets, and the progress made till date in India’s and specifically Uttar Pradesh and Bihar’s energy planning, EJN and SJAI are organising a workshop for communicators. The workshop sessions are designed to strengthen the skills of communicators to research and report on renewable energy issues.

Eligibilities
Applicants must:
- Be a communicator from Uttar Pradesh or Bihar.
- Commit to attending all days of the workshop.
- Have some experience reporting on scientific and/or environmental topics.
- Understand and be able to communicate in English and/or Hindi.
- Demonstrate interest in renewable energy issues.
- Permit republication by the organizers of any output as a result of participation in the workshop.
Eligible Regions: Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

- Staffers must provide a letter from their supervisor approving their attendance at the workshop.
- Applicants must submit two published samples or links to work that has appeared online. Work related to renewable energy issues are preferred.
