Future Leaders InnovAsian Programme 2020
  • March 21, 2020
  • Partially Funded

Future Leaders InnovAsian Programme is an online student club looking for enterprising young leaders like yourself! More than half of the world (50.5%) is under 30 years old. By definition, young people like yourselves will graduate school and become key drivers of the economy as consumers, workers, and entrepreneurs. Yet, oftentimes, it seems like society is ill-equipped to provide space and avenues for experimentation that will be necessary for us to design newer, better futures. Much of business is as usual even as the software is eating the world.

Think of FLIP as a yearlong, online-to-offline student club in charge of putting up workshops and hackathons locally as well as contributing to digital projects that will create a global impact. There is a role for everyone to play, whether you come from a technical or a non-technical background. At the end of your initial term, there will be opportunities to grow and scale your leadership at a country and international level as well.

FLIP is a youth leadership program that is part of the InnovAsian collective.

You can choose to work in the Community, Communication or Technology department. Key leaders of these departments are expected to put together your own team of volunteers that you will manage. They will give you support and advice as needed.

While the Community team leads the organization of community events, the Technology team will be working on the internal Code for Asia projects such as the below:

  • Asia-readiness Index: a measure of youths’ ability to assimilate and succeed within working environments in Asia
  • EDvengers: a platform for organizing hackathons and various peer-to-peer learning events
  • Hanna: a recommendation engine for college majors

How Will Work Together:

Code for Asia will provide the team with an Onboarding Kit consisting of the following:

  • Branding guidelines
  • 1 poster template
  • 1 video template
  • Proprietary EDvengers platform for learning experience management
  • Template hackathon experience guidelines
    • Agenda
    • Segment purpose
    • Recommended technologies
  • Pre-defined forms
  • Video tutorials on creating and managing learning events

For the entire duration of this engagement, teams are expected to host their own internal calls on a weekly basis and update their project management boards regularly. You will be supported with online Masterclasses once-a-month. Code for Asia will conduct biweekly meetings in the initial phases to make sure you are off to a good head-start as well. You will also be pulled into a global Telegram group with Code for Asia as well as community leaders from other countries so more real-time support can also be provided.

Pathway and Progression:

Beyond this 1 year, you get to grow from being a Founding Member -> Team Lead Trainee -> Team Lead -> Country Lead -> Country President -> Country Mentor if you choose to continue to be engaged.

Outstanding young leaders also receive priority consideration for travel funding, speaking/showcase opportunities, apprenticeships and paying internships from their network of partner companies.

  • A seed funding and an On-boarding Kit with relevant templates will be provided to give you that initial nudge.
  • Exceptional contributors will gain priority consideration for funded travel, showcase and professional opportunities.
  • All team members will receive exclusive discounts for Code for Asia programs.

At the end of 1 year with FLIP, you should be able to boast the following:

  • Reached 200 members of the community locally over the course of a year as participants, mentors, partners, and volunteers
  • Launched and executed #codeathonX – the flagship Code for Asia hackathon – in your local community 2x for the year
  • Created value for the community and built industry linkages via networking and consultation sessions
  • Recruited a team of volunteers to organize local learning events and contribute to tech projects
  • Worked with partners and sponsors in venue, technology, training, and marketing
  • Featured local members/projects online and/or in print

Work and travel:

  • They organize a trip and learn talent development Bootcamp called CodeNomad with upcoming trips to Thailand-Singapore in July 2020 and Vietnam-Singapore in December 2020 that you are automatically under priority consideration for through your work at FLIP!

  • Purpose-driven and independent self-starters aged 18-35, regardless of discipline.
  • Relevant prior experiences will be preferred but not necessary.
