Call for Doctor of Public Health Scholarship 2027–2028 is open now!!!!

The University of Toronto’s Dalla Lana School of Public Health, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, is offering fully funded scholarships for the Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) program for the 2027–2028 academic year. The scholarship aims to support talented emerging public health leaders from Sub-Saharan Africa who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential, and a commitment to creating positive social impact.

At least seven scholarships are available. Successful scholars will receive comprehensive financial support covering major costs associated with their studies, including tuition, travel, accommodation, food and living expenses, books, and other program-related costs.

To be eligible, applicants must be citizens and current residents of a Sub-Saharan African country and must have graduated from an Africa Health Collaborative partner university. Applicants must not have already commenced doctoral-level graduate studies. Candidates are expected to demonstrate strong academic performance and leadership experience during their undergraduate and master’s-level studies, along with meeting the academic and admission requirements of the University of Toronto’s Doctor of Public Health program.

The DrPH is designed for professionals seeking to develop advanced expertise in public health practice, leadership, policy, and implementation. Through the program, scholars can strengthen their capacity to address complex public health challenges and contribute to improved health outcomes in their communities and countries.

Applicants are required to attend at least one mandatory virtual information session to be considered for the scholarship. The scholarship application deadline is October 1, 2026, while shortlisted applicants will subsequently complete the relevant program application process.

This opportunity is particularly suited to African public health professionals and graduates who aspire to become influential leaders in public health practice, policy, research, and systems transformation.

Eligibilities

  • Applicants MUST meet the following five eligibility criteria:
    • Be a citizen and currently residing in a Sub-Saharan African country.
    • Have graduated from a partner institution of the Africa Health Collaborative (listed here) and have not yet started graduate studies at the doctoral level.
    • Demonstrate academic excellence and leadership qualities during his/her undergraduate and master’s years.
    • Be academically admissible to the sponsored graduate program listed above.
    • Demonstrate a desire and commitment to return home for the last two years of the program to contribute to the ongoing economic growth and social development in Africa.

Application Process

Applicants are required to register and attend at least one of the three information sessions and apply through the apply link provided during the session. One question and answer session is to be held on 16th September.
