The Umeå University Scholarship for International Students is an academic merit-based award designed to support talented and high-achieving students from outside the EU/EEA. Offered annually in conjunction with the autumn semester intake, this scholarship provides selected candidates with either a full or partial waiver of their tuition fees. Selections are based on academic excellence, with committees within the university’s faculties reviewing applications to identify outstanding students.

The deadline to submit an application for a Bachelor’s or Master’s programme at Umeå University for the Autumn 2026 semester and to select the programme as Priority 1 on the University Admissions portal is 15 January 2026. Applications submitted after this date or listed as a lower priority will not be considered for scholarship invitations. All applicants who are required to pay an application fee must complete the payment on the University Admissions platform by 2 February 2026. Applicants who are exempt from the application fee but are required to pay tuition fees remain eligible for scholarships and are assessed alongside fee-paying applicants. Between 4 and 9 February 2026, Umeå University will send personal scholarship invitation emails to applicants who meet the eligibility requirements. Only students who receive this invitation are permitted to proceed with the scholarship interest registration. The final deadline to register interest for a Umeå University scholarship for the Autumn 2026 intake is 4 March 2026 at 23:59 CET. Failure to complete this step by the deadline will result in automatic exclusion from the scholarship selection process.
Scholarship selection results for the Umeå University Scholarships 2026 will be communicated directly to all applicants via email in late April 2026. Applicants are advised to regularly check their inbox, including spam folders, to avoid missing official notifications.

Eligibilities
They welcome you to register interest in a scholarship if you:
- are a citizen of a country outside of the EU/EEA and Switzerland;
- have applied for a full programme at Umeå University(Bachelor’s or Master’s);
- have completed your application for programme studies before the application deadline on 15 January 2026;
- have paid the application fee by 2 February 2026 and
- have chosen a Umeå University programme as priority 1 on the University Admissions website by 15 January 2026 at the latest.
Current students at Umeå University are eligible to register interest for a scholarship, given that you meet the following criteria:
- you have paid the tuition fee for the Spring semester 2026; and
- you are a registered student on the Spring semester 2026.
Current students who are on study leave are not considered eligible for a scholarship. Eligible students will receive the invitation to register interest for a scholarship according to the timeline listed above.

- When the form to register interest opens, eligible students will receive an email with instructions. The email is sent to the email address you have provided through your account on University Admissions. Only applicants with a Umeå University programme as priority 1 on University Admissions, as of their application deadline, or second year master students at Umeå University (i.e. students who are currently in their first year of their Master’s studies) are eligible to register interest for a scholarship.
- As a new student, your invitation to register interest for a scholarship is connected to your priority 1 programme. If you do not receive a place on your first-hand choice, but are admitted to another programme at Umeå University, it is not possible to register interest for a scholarship for the other programme instead.
- If you are an eligible student and have not received an email regarding scholarships to the email registered on University Admissions by the opening date stated above, first check your spam folder. .
