The German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS) is located in the UN City of Bonn and is one of the world’s leading research institutions and think tanks for global sustainable development. Our work is based on the interplay between Research, Policy Advice and Training. IDOS is building bridges between theory and practice.
The research is theory-based, empirically driven and application-oriented. It provides the basis for the activities in policy advice of the Institute. We develop policy-relevant concepts, advise ministries, governments and international organisations, and refer to current policy issues. The training programmes of the Institute for university graduates and young professionals are integrated into the research and advisory process. The institutional agreement ensures the principle of scientific independence of the Institute.
The transformation to sustainability can only be achieved using fundamentally reforming economic and social systems at the national and global levels. Researchers in this programme are examining the impacts of global economic dynamics on developing countries and emerging economies and observing the interplay between globalisation on the one hand and national economic and social policy strategies and initiatives on the other. The key question in this research is: What strategies and measures at the global, national and subnational levels are suitable for shaping change in the economic structures of developing countries and emerging economies in such a way that productivity is increased in the long term and poverty, malnutrition and inequality are decreased without exceeding the viability of ecological systems? The research programme analyses the design of socio-economic policies with a particular focus on the effects of global megatrends such as decarbonisation, global expansion of the new middle classes, radical technological change and shifting power centres in the global economy. It also drafts strategic solutions, taking account of the interdependence between national policies and the international regulatory framework.

Eligibilities
- Be a national or a permanent resident of one of the participating countries.
Have the support of their employer (written support required as part of the application). - Have a passion for global cooperation and sustainable development.
Be ready to participate in an intensive, full-time programme (8 hours per day, 40 weekly working hours). - Work in a partner institution of the MGG network or in an institution that is interested in future cooperation.
- Have a very good command of the English language (equivalent to B2 level of the CEFR).
- Be between 25 and 40 years old (older applicants, who have taken longer periods of parental leave, may be considered).
- Have at least three years of working experience (non-remunerated experience is also recognised).
- Be sensitive to other cultures, open to teamwork and to a broad variety of working methods.

Application Process
- Grant their employees a special leave of absence for the training period and relieve them of job-related tasks for the duration of the MGG Academy.
- Cover the costs of the round trip to and from Germany.
- Come to an agreement ensuring the living standards of the employee’s relatives in their home country.
- Support their employees in transferring the newly acquired competencies to their job.
