Calling applications for the KTH Scholarship 2025!

The KTH Scholarship provides an outstanding opportunity for highly motivated international students to pursue a master’s degree at Sweden’s prestigious KTH Royal Institute of Technology. This scholarship aims to foster the next generation of leaders who are committed to academic excellence and contributing to global sustainable development.  This KTH Scholarship covers the full tuition fee of a one or two-year master’s programme.  In 2024, 7 % of the scholarship applicants admitted to a programme were nominated for the KTH Scholarship (47 out of 696). The selection process for the scholarship focuses on academic excellence and the drive to contribute to sustainable development. The KTH Scholarship covers the tuition fee at KTH for the first and the second year, provided that the study results during the first year are satisfactory. The scholarship does not include living costs.

The scholarship is awarded primarily on the basis of academic excellence and the selection process is undertaken in parallel with the admissions process. Only applicants who fulfil the admission requirements of the programme applied for are eligible for a scholarship. After the applicants have been assessed for admission, an assessment of applicants for the scholarship is made based on the following criteria:

  • The applicant’s grades (GPA or equivalent)
  • The ranking of the university that awarded the applicant’s bachelor’s degree
  • The applicant’s extracurricular research experiences or publications, relevant work experience, relevant teaching experience, awards from competitions and extracurricular activities
  • The applicant’s motivation how they will contribute to the sustainable development goals with a master’s degree from KTH.

As a consequence, scholarship applicants should describe how they intend to contribute to sustainable development with a master’s degree from KTH.

Benefits of the KTH Scholarship

  • Tuition Fee Coverage: The KTH Scholarship covers the full tuition fee at KTH for the entire duration of the master’s programme (one or two years), provided that the recipient’s study results during the first year are satisfactory.

Eligibilities

Eligibility Criteria for KTH Master’s Programmes

  • Bachelor’s Degree
    • Must have academic qualifications from an internationally recognized university, equivalent to a Swedish bachelor’s degree.
    • Final-year students are eligible if they follow instructions from University Admissions. Final-year students at Swedish universities must have completed 150 ECTS credits in their program by 3 February.
  • English Proficiency
    • English proficiency equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6 is required.
    • Accepted English tests include:
    • IELTS: Overall score of 6.5
    • TOEFL: Score of 90
    • Some applicants may meet the requirement through completed upper secondary or university studies, depending on the country of previous studies. Visit University Admissions for details on recognized English tests and country-specific requirements.
  • Specific Programme Requirements
    • Each master’s program may have additional specific requirements. Check the specific requirements for each program through the provided links.
  • Application Documents
    • Required documents must be submitted for the application to be complete. Some documents are required for all programs, while others are program-specific. Check the list of required documents for each program through the provided links.
Eligible Regions: Any country outside of the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA), and Switzerland

Application Process

  •  Choose your programmes

Explore our 62 master’s programmes and find one or more programmes that fit your interests. On the programme pages, you can find detailed information about each programme: the courses, career opportunities, sustainability focus, and interviews with students and graduates. If you find it hard to choose, you can also connect with a student from the programme.

  •  Check the admission requirements

You can find the admission requirements for the programmes you want to apply to on the programme pages. There are both general and programme specific requirements. As the number of places for each programme is limited, and admission is highly competitive, meeting the admission requirements is a must for admission. If you think you have the background to meet the requirements, you are ready to start your application.

  •  Submit your application by 15 January

You apply through University Admissions, the Swedish national application system. Create an account and select your programmes. You can select up to four programmes and rank them in your order of priority.

  •  Submit your required documents by 3 February

Submit all required documents to your application at University Admissions. We recommend that you submit your documents as soon as you have them ready and pay the application fee (if required). Early submission increases your chance of getting feedback if something is missing or incomplete. You can find instructions on how to submit your documents and how documentation requirements may differ between countries at University admissions.

  •  Pay the application fee by 3 February

If you are not an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen, you have to pay an application fee of SEK 900. There are no application fee waivers. You can pay the fee directly on the University Admission website. If you are not required to pay the fee, you need to prove your citizenship with, for example, a copy of your passport.

  •  Check the admission results on 27 March

The admission results are posted in your account at University Admissions . You do not need to reply to your offer. If you are admitted, we will contact you and prepare you for your arrival in Stockholm.
