Tampere University tuition fee scholarships awarded at admission cover 100% of the tuition fees for the programme duration. The programme duration is

three years for Bachelor’s degrees
two years for Master’s degrees
five years if the study right is granted for both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree.​​​

Finland scholarships awarded by Tampere University are part of the national Finland Scholarship programme. Applicants to Master’s programmes are eligible to apply. Finland scholarships are awarded at Tampere University to the most merited applicant in each Master’s programme.

Finland scholarships cover the programme tuition fee for the first year of studies and include a 5000 € relocation grant, paid to the student’s Finnish bank account after the student has arrived in Tampere and started studies at Tampere University.

Eligibilities

Eligibility criteria in the master’s programmes taught in English consist of two parts: Tampere University’s general eligibility criteria, and programme-specific eligibility criteria, which specify and/or add information to the general criteria. You must meet both to be considered eligible. Applicants who do not meet both the general eligibility and the programme-specific eligibility criteria will not be selected as students in Tampere University.

General eligibility criteria
To be eligible to apply to a Master’s Programme at Tampere University, you must have:

Bachelor’s degree – nationally recognized first cycle degree*
an applicable bachelor’s degree at a university or a university of applied sciences in Finland
a bachelor’s degree completed in a university outside Finland which provides eligibility for equivalent University master’s degree studies in the country in which it was awarded.
With a minimum scope of 180 ECTS credits, three to four years of full-time study
from a relevant field for the master’s degree programme that you’re applying to
from a recognised institution of higher education

Programme-specific eligibility criteria

Each Master’s Programme can define more detailed programme-specific eligibility criteria including, for example, more specific requirements concerning the applicant’s previous education.

When applying to a Master’s Programme at Tampere University, you must submit evidence of your good command of the English language for academic purposes. You have two options for demonstrating your English language proficiency: language tests or previous studies.

National Certificate of Language Proficiency in English (YKI-tutkinto)
Proficiency level 5 on all the subtests (reading, writing, listening and speaking).

You can prove your language skills without a language test if you have completed an upper secondary degree or a university degree with English as the language of instruction in an EU/EEA country, Switzerland, the USA, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand.

You can prove your language skills with a degree completed at a Finnish university or university of applied sciences that includes compulsory studies in the English language, and it thereby demonstrates your language proficiency as set out in the Government Decree on University Degrees (Section 6; 794/2004) and the Government Decree on Universities of Applied Sciences (Section 7; 1129/2014).

A Finnish or international matriculation examination with

minimum grade of magna cum laude approbatur (M) in English language (advanced syllabus) in the Finnish matriculation examination.
For applicants who hold the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, one of the following:

Successful completion of the International Baccalaureate Diploma in English; OR
Successful completion of A Level English (literature / language and literature / language and performance); OR
A minimum score of 5 (good) in B Level English
For applicants who hold the European Baccalaureate (EB) Diploma, one of the following:

Successful completion of L1 in English; OR
A minimum score of 7 in L2 or L3
For applicants who hold the Reifeprüfung Diploma or the German International Abitur (DIA) Diploma completed in German School in Helsinki, one of the following:

successful completion of written A Level English; OR
a minimum score of 8 in oral A Level English.

A minimum of 25 credits earned by completing English-taught courses at Tampere University in the space of a single semester before the application deadline.

Application Process

  • Check the general eligibility and programme-specific eligibility criteria of the programme/s you wish to apply. You are allowed to apply to three programmes at the same time.
  • Read through the instructions on how to apply and start preparing your application documents as early as possible!
  • Take a language test if required, please see the language requirements.
  • When the application period opens, fill in the online application at Studyinfo.fi during the application period and upload required attachments to the application.
  • The application period is 7 December 2022 at 8.00 (UTC+2) – 11 January 2023 at 15.00 (UTC+2).
  • Upload all required attachments and submit the educational documents to Tampere University Admissions Office by the deadline of 1 February 2023 at 15.00 (UTC+2). The documents must reach the University by the given deadline.
  • You can apply for a scholarship on the application form if tuition fees apply.
  • Wait for the admission results to be announced by early April 2023.
  • If you are offered a study place, remember to accept it by the given deadline. Pay the tuition fee, if required.
