Call for Applications of Journalists in Residence Program 2027!!

The Stigler Center Journalists in Residence Program 2027 at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business is accepting applications from journalists around the world who want to deepen their understanding of the relationship between politics and the economy. Launched in 2017, the program aims to help develop the next generation of business reporting leaders by allowing experienced journalists to learn directly from academics, researchers, and fellow journalists. Participants spend approximately 12 weeks on the University of Chicago’s Hyde Park campus, where they audit classes, attend Stigler Center activities, collaborate with peers, and build connections with scholars.

The program is particularly suited to journalists with some professional experience who want to strengthen their knowledge of political economy, business, markets, and related subjects. Participants can audit three Chicago Booth classes, take part in seminars, lectures, workshops, conferences, and other university activities, and engage with faculty and students. The program welcomes journalists working across different forms of media, including freelance journalists and editors, rather than limiting participation to traditional newspaper reporters.

Selected participants receive substantial financial and academic support during their stay in Chicago. The program provides a USD 14,000 stipend for living expenses over the 12-week period, reimbursement for economy-class airfare to and from Chicago, and reimbursement of SEVIS and visa application fees. Participants also receive health insurance through the University of Chicago’s student or visitor plan, although the cost is paid from the program stipend unless equivalent coverage is provided. Housing guidance and resources are also available to help participants arrange short-term accommodation.
