This internship position reports to the P-4 Regional Staff Counsellor and is office-based in Dakar, Senegal. The psychosocial intern will contribute to the creation of current well-being resources, the updating of the WCAR Staff Counsellor intranet site, participation in all regular initiatives for communicating about well-being (newsletter, psychoeducational materials), and help with logistical and administrative tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Supporting the Staff Counselling Team through the research, conceptualization, and development of well-being resources
  1. Assessing emerging needs of specific staff groups and engaging in discussions with staff counselors and other wellbeing stakeholders on their requirements for new resources
  2. Conducting research and reporting on the latest mental health best practices to inform relevant and updated resource development
  3. Proactively identify gaps in resources and programs, and actively highlight this to the team
  4. Co-ordinating the development of resources in consultation with staff counsellors e.g., articles, videos, podcasts, webinars, fact sheets, articles
  1. Proactively developing the WCAR Staff Counsellor Wellbeing intranet site based on the ongoing emerging needs of UNICEF personnel
  1. Regularly seeking feedback from staff on well-being site to inform improvements
  2. Organize current resources catalog and display on the site
  3. Keeping the site up to date with new resources
  1. Coordinating wellbeing communication and organizing and promoting wellbeing events/initiatives
  1. Assisting with the organization of the UN Mental Health Day events
  2. Effectively promote well-being events/initiatives
  3. Contribute to the creation of the monthly newsletter and distribute the Happiness Calendar
  1. Managing Knowledge via the maintenance of the staff counselor’s internal online library/document storage
  1. Keeping abreast of the resources in the library and creating a structure for the organization
  1. Assisting with logistical and administrative tasks as needed e.g. booking meeting spaces, sending event invitations, etc.
  2. Any other duties, as assigned by the supervisor

Benefits

  • UNICEF provides a monthly stipend to the interns.
  • A one-time lump sum, as a contribution towards travel and visa costs, may also be granted when funding is available.

Eligibilities

  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate/advanced university degree (Bachelor’s or higher) in psychology, social sciences, or any other relevant field. – Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
  • Have no immediate relatives (e.g., father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office; and
  • Have no other relatives in the line of authority to whom the intern will report.
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergencies is considered an asset.
  • Be proficient in at least one of UNICEF’s working languages: English, French, or Spanish. Fluency in the working language of the office you are applying to is required
