UNICEF Türkiye is calling for applications for interns at Social Policy Station.

UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential. Across 190 countries and territories, they work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.

UNICEF offers the opportunity for interns, and talented university students, to gain valuable professional experience while being exposed to UNICEF’s work. At the same time, UNICEF benefits from working with interns as they are a significant asset, providing updated academic knowledge, technical know-how, and other valuable skills to the organization.

UNICEF Türkiye Social Policy Section would like to recruit an intern to support the Programme on Combatting Child Labour and Promoting Children’s Rights and Business Principles. In particular, the intern will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Supporting the implementation of the Programme on Combatting Child Labour and Promoting Children’s Rights and Business Principles: Interns will support the team on program implementation. Where necessary, the intern will assist in organizing events and communicating with the participants as well as follow-up on the correspondence.
  • Joining internal program conversations (webinars, thematic working groups) and relevant external meetings, conferences, and events within Türkiye: The intern will take part in programmatic conversations and benefit external meetings.
  • Compilation of child labor legislation: The intern will compile national legislation and international conventions/treaties on child labor and prepare an Excel sheet for easy access. The goal is to map strong legislative examples which played a key role in eliminating child labor in different settings and countries and to use this to inform not only legislation development but also to address the gaps between legislation and implementation.
  • Compilation of studies on child labor, corporate social responsibility, and due diligence acts
Interns will review the assessments, research, and analyses (qualitative or quantitative) done by academics, CSOs, and INGOs on CRBP, due diligence acts, and child labor in 2022 and 2023 in Türkiye and European Union. S/he will prepare a table with brief information about the studies’ major focus, findings, and recommendations.
  • Preparing presentations on CRBP and child labor: The intern will identify a specific topic regarding CRBP and child labor issues in Türkiye which may include the recognition of children’s rights in the private sector and the prevalence of child labor in a particular sector, intervention models, summary of a field study on child labor, etc. and make a presentation at the end of the internship.
