The AWF-WALL Youth Leadership Program, a flagship initiative of AWF, offers two complementary fellowship tracks designed to strengthen Africa’s conservation leadership pipeline. This brochure introduces the AWF-Wall Policy Fellowship, created for young African professionals eager to deepen their expertise in environmental policy, particularly biodiversity governance. Fellowships are shaping a bold, connected generation of African conservation leaders.
Probably too many to count. And yet, despite making up over 70% of the continent’s population—with a median age of 19—young people in Africa continue to be sidelined in decisions that impact their own futures. While the median age is 19, the median age of a political leader is 60, meaning the voices most affected by today’s policies are frequently absent from the rooms where decisions are made. Too often, young people are dismissed as lacking the experience to contribute meaningfully to these high-stakes discussions.
