The Matsumae International Foundation (MIF) is deeply rooted in the heartfelt vision of its founder, Dr. Shigeyoshi Matsumae (1901–1991), who fervently aspired to create a world marked by genuine peace and security. Dr. Matsumae believed in the transformative power of connection, championing the idea that fostering relationships and building trust among individuals is fundamental to achieving a harmonious global community. Established on this noble foundation, the MIF embodies its conviction that encouraging cultural and academic exchanges can pave the way for enduring friendships and goodwill, essential ingredients for nurturing long-lasting international ties.

At the heart of the MIF’s mission lies a commitment to empowering young researchers from across the globe who are driven to tackle pressing challenges faced in their home countries. The foundation opens doors for these aspiring scholars to immerse themselves in Japan’s rich tapestry of scientific and technological knowledge. Through their transformative experiences in Japan, these researchers gain invaluable insights into the country’s unique culture, enhancing their personal and professional development. As they embark on this journey, the MIF strives to cultivate a new generation of influential researchers capable of acting as dynamic bridges between their home countries and Japan, fostering collaboration and understanding on a global scale.
