EMBO is an organization of more than 1700 leading researchers that promotes excellence in the life sciences. The major goals of the organization are to support talented researchers at all stages of their careers, stimulate the exchange of scientific information, and help build a European research environment where scientists can achieve their best work. The EMBO Long-Term Fellowships are awarded for a period of up to two years and support post-doctoral research visits to laboratories throughout Europe and the world. International exchange is a key feature in the application process.

While applications are accepted throughout the year, there are two evaluation periods every year. The evaluation committee meets in May and November. Any complete applications received by second Friday of February, 2 pm CET will be evaluated at their spring meeting, with interviews conducted in April. Applications received by second Friday of August, 2 pm CEST, will be evaluated at their autumn meeting, with interviews in October. Outcomes will be announced in June and December.
