The One Young World Shell Scholarship Programme is an initiative by Shell Netherlands to empower ten ambitious, young people in realizing their initiatives for a better world.

In 2018, Shell developed the One Young World Shell Scholarship Programme to empower the development of diverse young leaders in the Netherlands to make a social impact in the areas of energy transition, education and entrepreneurship. The end goal is to work towards a social investment proposal, eligible for funding by Shell Netherlands. Secure the investment to make the project in mind a reality!

The Scholarship is back for 2019 and enables 10 ambitious young leaders to participate in the One Young World Summit 2019 in London.

In addition to joining the Summit, scholarship recipients will receive personal coaching and leadership training from Shell professionals. Each scholar will develop a social investment proposal which will be considered for funding by Shell Netherlands.

If the eligibility criteria are met by a candidate and if he/she is working to make Sustainable Development Goals #7, #8 and #13 relevant for everyone, then this is a great opportunity to achieve his/her goals with the help of the programme.

Timeline of the programme –

  1. Pitch training – (May 23,2019)
  2. Pitch and nomination event – (May 29,2019)
  3. Kick starter event (May/June 2019) Essentials day 1 (May/June)
  4. Essentials day 2 (Aug/Sep)
  5. Investment proposal working day (Aug/Sep)
  6. Pitch podium (Voluntary – Sep/Oct)
  7. OYW summit (22–25 Oct) – The One Young World Summit will take place in London on 22 to 25 October 2019. All practical information about the summit can be found in the website. There will be many plenary sessions and a wide variety of subjects.
  8. Kick-Forward (Nov)
  9. Investment proposal submittal (early December 2019)

Benefits

The scholarship will provide:

  • Access to the OYW summit 2019 in London
  • The costs of travelling to and return from the UK
  • Transport, accommodation and food during the OYW summit in London
  • Training and participation in OYW Shell Scholarship Programme
  • Personal coaching, leadership training, storytelling guidance and project management skills
  • Travel to and from trainings is not included
  • Learning handouts and supporting materials

Eligibilities

  • Most delegates are between the age of 18 and 30. The OYW and Shell team will consider applications from those who are older than 30 demonstration of appropriate personal impact, initiative and willingness to engage. We are not able to accept applications from those who will be aged under 18 at the time of the OYW Summit.
  • Currently living in the Netherlands (and during the time of the OYW Summit)
  • Good motivation and complete application form showcasing the impact the candidate is making in Sustainable Development Goal #7, #8 or #13
  • Available and motivated to spend time on the Shell Scholarship Programme and OYW summit. There will be 7 (full) training days, in addition to coaching, mentoring and working on your project plans, plus 4 summit days
  • Good command of English is desirable since the OYW summit is entirely in English. The Shell Scholarship Programme will be in Dutch
  • Able and eligible to travel to the UK
