Applications are now open for the third edition of the African Youth Summit on Biodiversity. This summit, hosted by the Global Youth Biodiversity Network – Africa (GYBN Africa), is organized in collaboration with several key partners, including the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF), GYBN Rwanda, GYBN Niger, and the IUCN Nature-based Solutions Hub. Additional support is provided by the Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA).
The primary objective of the summit is to enhance youth engagement in the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF). It aims to empower young people from across Africa by equipping them with the essential skills, knowledge, and tools needed to contribute effectively to their respective countries’ National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs). The summit seeks to encourage a proactive role among youth in biodiversity policy and advocacy.
More than 100 participants aged 18 to 35 will gather at the summit, including emerging conservationists, students, biologists, researchers, youth leaders, activists, and representatives from Indigenous peoples and local communities (IPLCs).
