Call for entries for the 2024 Doug Pensinger Photography Fund!

The Doug Pensinger Photography Fund is the only US-based non profit supporting emerging sports photographers. You are qualified if you are a student or if you are just starting out in your job. You are not eligible for the programme if you have more than three years of total paid professional sports photography experience.

Get the Youth Opportunities iOS App here for the fully-funded opportunities.

You need to upload twenty photographs. Of the twenty needed pictures, at least fifteen must be recent, shot on or after January 1, 2022. The final five necessary photos have to be taken by January 1, 2020, at the latest. Except for standard exposure adjustment, white balance, and colour toning, images cannot be extensively post-production processed digitally. “Project Title” is just a name for your set of twenty images; it makes no indication that the images are supposed to be a part of a sequence or narrative.

A $5,000 award will be given to each of the seven photographers, to be used for professional development and a sponsored trip to the 2024 DPPF Sports Photography Gathering. The DPPF offers Development Grants in addition to its regular grants programme to help sports photographers with exceptional potential whose current portfolio quality may be hampered by significant financial, geographical, or cultural constraints. The panel will choose worthy applicants from the remaining application pool to receive Development scholarships after choosing the seven winners of the $5,000 scholarships.

Up to 3 of the 7 grant winners will be chosen to receive a year-long mentorship opportunity with leading industry professionals on the  DPPF Advisory Board. Mentorship recipients will be chosen based on current profiles and mentorship essay. Applying for a mentorship is not required in order to compete for a DPPF grant.

Recipients of the grants from the DPPF, a nonprofit organisation devoted to helping up-and-coming sports photographers, would need to provide receipts as proof that the funds were utilised for professional development. The cost of training programmes and software, the cost of workshops, the purchase of photographic materials and equipment, and direct travel expenses related to job chances are a few examples of authorised usage. After accepting the prize, winners will have a year to provide verification of their expenses.

Submission will start on 15 March 2024 and Winners will be notified by July 1, 2024.
