The Asian English Olympics (AEO) is one of the biggest English Olympics in Asia with over 650 participants from 11 Asian countries last year. AEO is an English Olympics held by BINUS English Club (BNEC), an English club under BINUS University in Jakarta, Indonesia. AEO has eight fields of competitions, six of them offline and two of them online. The six offline competitions are Debate, Speech, Newscasting, Storytelling, Scrabble and Spelling Bee. The online competitions are Radio Drama and Short Story Writing.

English Olympics is one of BNEC’s most prestigious events. They have been conducting this event since 2004, starting with the Nationwide English Olympics for 6 years. It then developed into 1 year of Southeast Asian English Olympics, and lastly 7 years of Asian English Olympics with more than 500 participants from Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Hong Kong, Macau, India, Bangladesh, Laos, Cambodia, and South Korea.

They started from Nationwide English Olympics, and have managed to develop our English Competition into an Asian-scaled competition, Asian English Olympics. Around 700 participants from 13 countries all around Asia had participated in 2018 Asian English Olympics, competed in eight fields of competitions such as, Debate, Speech, Storytelling, Newscasting, Spelling Bee, Scrabble, Short Story Writing, and Radio Drama. They also give meaningful experiences to be remembered and broadening the networking of the participants across Asia.

The 2019 AEO will be held on February 11-16, 2019. There will also be the “Institutional Champion” title for participating institutions. Points of every delegates who win in each field of AEO will be accumulated, whichever institution gathered the most points will be crowned for the title.

AEO (Asian English Olympics) was first held in 2012 with the total of 425 participants coming from Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, and Indonesia. Six fields of competition were provided for participants to compete in, such as Debate, Scrabble, Speech, Storytelling, Newscasting, and Short Movie Making.
