Through the Community Grant Program, Walmart Foundation associates are proud to support the needs of their communities by providing grants to local organizations. For nearly 40 years, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation have been committed to strengthening local communities around the world. They believe in operating globally and giving back locally – creating an impact in the neighborhoods.
The 2019 grant cycle begins February 15, 2019, and the application deadline to apply is December 31, 2019. The application may be submitted at any time during this funding cycle. Please note that applications will only remain pending in their system for 90 days.

Areas of Funding:
There are 8 areas of funding for which an organization can apply. Please review the areas listed below to ensure your organization’s goals fall within one of these areas:
- Hunger relief and healthy eating: Providing Federal or charitable meals/snacks for low-income individuals and families in the United States
- Health and human service: Providing medical screening, treatment, social services, or shelters for low-income individuals and families in the United States
- Quality of life: Improving access to recreation, arts or cultural experiences for low-income individuals and families in the United States
- Education: Providing afterschool enrichment, tutoring or vocational training for low-income individuals and families in the United States
- Community and economic development: Improving local communities for the benefit of low-income individuals and families in the United States
- Diversity and Inclusion: Fostering the building of relationships and understanding among diverse groups in the United States
- Public Safety: Supporting public safety programs through training programs or equipment in the United States
- Environmental sustainability: Preventing waste, increasing recycling or supporting other programs that work to improve the environment in the United States
Selection Process:
- Management at the facility to which you are applying will review the application and make initial funding recommendations on all submitted requests
- Each facility manager may set the frequency and process in which application determinations are made
- The facility manager and the grant administrator reserve the right to adjust the amount awarded to each organization without prior notice
- Organizations will be notified of any decision via e-mail. All funding decisions are final
- If an organization is approved, grant checks will be mailed directly to the recipient organization’s address listed in the grant application. Please allow two to four weeks for delivery
- In the event of being awarded a grant, organizations should contact their local facility from which funds were awarded to schedule a formal recognition event

Awarded grants range from $250 to $5,000.
Eligibilities
- Eligible nonprofit organizations must operate and their proposed program must directly benefit the communities within the service area of the facility from which they are requesting funding
- Organizations may only submit and/or receive 25 applications
- Grant funds may not be used to promote or engage in criminal acts of violence, terrorism, hate crimes, the destruction of any state, or discrimination on the basis of race, national origin, religion, military and veteran status, disability, sex, age, gender identity or sexual orientation, or support of any entity that engages in these activities
Organizations applying must meet the one of following criteria:
- An organization holding a current tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3), or (19) of the Internal Revenue Code, listed on the IRS Master File and conduct activities within the United States; excluding nationally sponsored organizations: American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, Children’s Miracle Network and United Way
- A recognized government entity: state, county, or city agency, including law enforcement or fire departments, that are requesting funds exclusively for public purposes
- A K-12 public or private school, charter school, community/junior college, state/private college or university
- A church or other faith-based organization with a proposed project that benefits the community at large such as food pantries, soup kitchens, clothing closets, etc.
