Call for The Interledger on Campus (IoC) Mini-Grant Program 2026 is open now!!!

The Interledger on Campus (IoC) Mini-Grant Program, launched by the Interledger Foundation, supports student-led innovation, learning, and community engagement focused on open payments and digital financial inclusion. At the Interledger Foundation, they continuously work to improve our grantmaking and grant management processes. Their goal is to increase impact while providing guidance that helps potential grantees innovate, incubate, and develop ideas that create meaningful outcomes for underserved communities around the world.

Through this initiative, student organizations at accredited universities worldwide may apply for funding of up to USD $5,000 to design and implement projects that explore interoperable payment systems and expand awareness of equitable financial technologies. The program encourages students to take leadership roles in building campus communities that understand and experiment with open financial infrastructure, including technologies such as the Interledger Protocol.

The program is designed to support student-led activities that introduce and explore Interledger and open payments technologies on campus. Activities that may be considered, under the program, may include but is not limited to:
● Campus workshops or educational sessions
● Hackathons or innovation challenges
● Technical meetups or developer learning sessions
● Research groups or student learning communities
● Events that promote awareness of open payments and financial inclusion

Projects should demonstrate clear educational or community impact within the campus ecosystem; and promote awareness, education, or experimentation with Interledger concepts.

Applications are usually reviewed based on the following criteria:

● Student leadership and ownership
● Alignment with open payments & digital financial inclusion
● Quality of project design and proposed activities
● Feasibility and timelines
● Budget clarity and cost effectiveness
● Institutional support and governance

The primary goal of the Interledger on Campus program is to empower student leaders to explore, promote, and experiment with open payments and digital financial inclusion within their universities and surrounding communities.

Eligibilities

Funding may support student-organized initiatives such as:

  • Workshops and training sessions on open payments
  •  Campus hackathons or innovation challenges
  •  Student research, policy briefs, or publications
  •  Campus awareness campaigns and cross-club activations.
  •  Development of small technology prototypes or payment tools
  • Existing or new student-led clubs, societies or associations at accredited higher education institutions
  • Clubs must be focused on business, finance, computer science, engineering, public policy, governance or related fields

  •  Upload a 2-page concept note outlining project, activities, and expected outcomes.
  •  Budget and timeline with milestones
  •  Institutional letter of support confirming fund management and oversight
