The Snowden Trust provides grants to physically disabled and sensory impaired students studying in the UK – in further or higher education or those training towards employment. The purpose is to help cover additional costs that students incur as a result of their disability and where available statutory funding does not cover them.

About 100 grants are awarded each year, ranging from £250 to £3,000.

Eligibilities

  • Applicants must have a physical or sensory disability.
  • Students of all nationalities may apply but must be studying at a college or university in the UK.
  • A grant will not usually exceed £3,000 per year.
  • Successful applicants may re-apply for support in future years, but continued support will be subject to a satisfactory academic or other appropriate reports.
  • Candidates will declare all relevant financial and medical information, which will be kept confidential to the panel and administrators of the grants.
  • The awarding selection panel usually meets in July and October, with applicants receiving results soon after each meeting. Acceptance of an award must normally be made within two weeks of a funding offer.
  • Conditional awards may be made dependent on the results of examinations and other grant applications.
  • Applications for retrospective funding will not be considered.
  • The decision of the selection panel will be final. No further correspondence will be entered into about the panel’s decision.
  • Repayment of the grant may be claimed if it has not been used for the purpose specified, or if grants/allowances are subsequently received from statutory bodies for the specified purpose.
