The programme is open to current PhD students whose doctoral research includes Olympism, the Olympic Movement, or the Olympic Games as at least one of its research focuses. Early-career academic staff and postdoctoral researchers may also apply if they completed their doctorate or equivalent highest degree in or after 2024. PhD applicants must remain enrolled throughout the grant period, and their proposed project should make a clear contribution to their doctoral thesis.

Successful applicants can receive a research grant of up to USD 6,000, with the final amount determined by the Grant Programme Selection Committee. Funding can support research-related expenses such as economy-class travel and living costs associated with research visits, translation of essential materials, data collection, relevant software, web hosting, and other justified research expenses. Up to USD 1,500 may be used for knowledge-mobilisation activities such as conference participation, publication fees, podcasts, or blogs.
