Fundraising is invaluable to any nonprofit board or leadership position and helps you create the social change you want to see in the world. The Champions program will help you develop an action plan, learn to talk about the issues you most care about, and empower you to raise critical funds for women’s groups to fight for their rights!

This year, Spark will welcome 25 young professionals to become the 4th cohort of Champions. Taking part in the Champions Program means receiving insider knowledge about fundraising, being part of a supportive group of leaders and, most importantly, obtaining financial resources for social change. During the Program, participants will:

  • Take part in workshops conducted by fundraising experts
  • Receive face-to-face and online mentorship from the Program leaders
  • Become part of the diverse Champions network
  • Conduct their own, creative fundraising activities

The Champions Program will be conducted in different locations in San Francisco every 3- weeks and covers basic principles of fundraising including:

  • Money & Meaning
  • Making the ask (Getting past the fear!)
  • Event Planning
  • Peer to Peer, Crowdsourcing
  • Major Gifts
  • Corporate Partnerships

Program workshops will be conducted every 3 weeks, ensuring consistent engagement and sufficient time to meet participants’ goals. Between the workshops, participants will be personally supported by mentors. The Champions Program will conclude with a special, exclusive Champions celebration plus recognition at Spark’s Black & Pink Ball, our signature event with 500 young professionals.

Eligibilities

Young professionals between 21 and 40 y.o. are eigible to apply. The program will be held in various locations in San Francisco. Perticipants will have to secure their own accommodation and travel, if outside the San Francisco Bay Area.

Application Process

The Program’s Kick Off is set for Wednesday, May 31, with registration open through Monday, May 29. The Program is organized by Spark’s leadership and by Champions Program Co-Chairs, Cara Hanelin (Stanford University), Renee Saedi (Global Fund for Women), & Kristina Lee (Worldreader).

The comparative value of a fundraising training of this kind could be as much as $2,500. Spark would like to make the Champions Program accessible for everyone, especially young professionals, therefore the participation cost recommendation is $100 (e.g. Spark Membership). The participation donation is at the Champions discretion, we ask that you give whatever you are comfortable with contributing.
