Bangladesh Embassy in The Hague, in partnership with top Dutch water institution (Deltares), just launched a unique photo and video contest, among Bangladesh and the Netherlands nationals titled ‘Bangladesh@50 The Water Story.’ Both The Netherlands and Bangladesh have a story to tell when it comes to the relationship with water. What better way to tell a story than with photographs and videos!

As Bangladesh celebrates 50 years of Bangladesh’s independence in 2021 and also 50 years of (Bangladesh-The Netherlands) diplomatic relations, the Bangladesh Embassy in The Netherlands realizes that there cannot be a better common element than WATER to underline their joined aspirations, resilience and innovation. Embassy took the novel initiative to mark 50 years of Bangladesh-Netherlands diplomatic ties (in 2022), to “celebrate friendship” between two peoples. Both Bangladesh and the Netherlands are active delta where people have stories to tell when on the engagements with water; there can be no better common element than water to highlight collective aspirations, resilience and innovation of Bangladesh and Dutch people. To mark the unique relation and cooperation, the Embassy of Bangladesh in The Netherlands, together with Deltares, has organised a photo and video contest.

The themes of the photo and video contest are:

  • Beautiful Land and Water (Bangladesh or The Netherlands)
  • Inspiring People and Water (Bangladesh or The Netherlands)
  • Thriving Economy and Water (Bangladesh or The Netherlands)

Winning photos and videos will be presented in Q1 2022 in a photo book and during an exhibition that will highlight some of the great water-related developments and achievements evolving from the 50 years of Bangladesh independence and 50 years of Bangladesh – Netherlands diplomatic relations.

The Contest is open to all Bangladeshis: children, youth, amateurs, professionals.

Application Process

Entries are required to submit online by the deadline. To submit your entries please click on Apply Now.

Format of the Entries:

  • Photographs have to be in JPG, JPEG, PNG, TIFF, TIF or BMP format and they have to be 3,000 pixel on the longer side. Resolution will have to be minimal 300 pixel/inch.
  • Videos (max 2 minutes) have to be in MP4, AVI, GIF or WMV format (if larger than 50MB please provide a link to Vimeo or Youtube).

Submission Rules:

  • By submitting your entry/entries, you agree with the official rules of the contest.
  • Everyone can submit a maximum of upto [10] photographs and/or videos (entry/entries).
  • For any editing, the fundamental values of journalism aply. Any entry/entries found with unacceptable editing, will be disqualified.
  • The subject of the entry/entries should not embody/contain any dead human/living being and show violent /racist /discriminatory /indecent elements.
  • The entry/entries should not have any kind of border, copyright mark, watermark or subscript text.
  • Every entry/entries has to be original, taken by the maker him/herself. Entry/entries that has/have already been awarded in any previous contest/competition, will be rejected.
  • Entry/entries must seek the permission of people recognizable in the entry/entries (or the permission of guardians for entry/entries of minors) or events/properties before submission in order to ensure GDPR compliance. By submitting an entry/entries it is assumed that this permission is in place.
  • Submission descriptions can be made in English, Dutch or Bangla language.
  • In case of all other photographs/videos that would be chosen for an Exhibition in 2022, the selected photographers would receive a Certificate of Merit from the organisers.
