Call for Application for the SCAR Visiting Scholar Fellowship and Award 2026 is open now!!!

The Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR), operating under the International Science Council, offers the Visiting Scholar Scheme to strengthen global research capacity in Antarctic studies. This initiative is specifically designed to support scientists and academics in advancing collaborative research while fostering knowledge exchange between institutions, particularly those in countries with smaller or less-developed Antarctic research programs.
The scheme enables selected scholars to undertake short-term visits, typically ranging from one to four weeks, to institutions in SCAR member countries. These visits are structured to facilitate training, mentoring, and capacity-building activities, either by providing expertise to host institutions or by gaining specialized knowledge from them. The program emphasizes long-term collaboration, encouraging participants to establish enduring academic partnerships that contribute to advancements in Antarctic research and its role in understanding the Earth system.

Applicants are expected to align their proposals closely with SCAR’s scientific objectives, including research conducted through its Science Groups and interdisciplinary programs. The selection process is highly competitive and focuses on the potential impact of the proposed visit in enhancing research capabilities, strengthening institutional linkages, and contributing to global scientific knowledge. Factors such as research excellence, relevance to SCAR’s mission, and the applicant’s career stage are carefully evaluated.
