Call for International Pursuit Award for PhD Students and Recent Doctoral Graduates 2026 !!!
Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital’s 16th annual Pursuit Awards international competition is now accepting applications.
The prestigious Pursuit Awards recognize PhD students and recent doctoral graduates from around the world for their outstanding contributions to childhood disability research.
The awards celebrate research that supports personalized versions of a good life across the lifespan for individuals with childhood-onset disabilities, acquired injuries and developmental differences, as well as their families and communities. Over the years, the Pursuit Awards have recognized some of the most promising young researchers in the field. Their work has included exploring how physical activity can benefit youth with neurodevelopmental conditions and developing tools to help families make informed decisions for children living with brachial plexus birth injury.

The top three candidates will be selected by an esteemed panel of scientists, staff and family leaders and announced at a ceremony held during the annual Bloorview Research Institute (BRI) Symposium on November 5–6, 2026. The first-place winner will receive $3,000 CAD, while the second- and third-place winners will receive $2,000 CAD and $1,000 CAD, respectively.
The Pursuit Awards are open to applicants from around the world whose PhD research focuses on pediatric disability. Eligible applicants include current PhD students who are less than six months away from their defense, postdoctoral trainees within one year of receiving their PhD, and recent graduates within one year of receiving their PhD.

Finalists will be evaluated based on academic excellence, research potential, knowledge translation and research productivity. Finalists are expected to pre-record their presentations for the annual BRI Research Symposium and are expected to be available to participate in the event.

Eligibilities
- PhD Students: Current PhD students who are less than six months away from their defense and whose PhD research focuses on pediatric disability.

- Recent Graduates: Recent graduates who are within one year of receiving their PhD and whose research focuses on pediatric disability.
