British Council is delighted to announce round five of the British Council and Unlimited Micro Awards, funded by the British Council and administrated by Unlimited. The aim of these awards is to help facilitate partnership and collaboration between artists and/or collectives in the UK and countries eligible to receive Official Development Assistance (ODA).In total, micro-grants of £2,500 will be awarded to approximately 10 pairs of disabled artists.
These awards can cover a range of different art forms, including:
- Combined arts
- Visual art
- Literature
- Music
- Theatre
- Dance
- Film
The international collaborator must be a disabled artist/s or collective based in countries in receipt of Official Development Assistance. For details about ODA-eligible countries visit OECD’s website.
Here is a full list of the countries that artists can apply to collaborate with:
Albania, Argentina, Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Botswana, Brazil, Cambodia, China, Colombia, Cuba, Egypt, Ethiopia, Georgia, Ghana, Grenada, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Jamaica, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kosovo, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Malawi, Mauritius, Mexico, Montenegro, Morocco, Mozambique, Myanmar, Namibia, Nepal, Nigeria, Occupied Palestinian Territories, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Rwanda, Senegal, Serbia, Sierra Leone, South Africa, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Tanzania, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, Uganda, Uzbekistan, Venezuela, Vietnam, Yemen, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

Artists and their collaborators, together, decide how the funds will be distributed. So what portion are artist fees and what portion is allocated to project running costs, e.g. translation, money transfer charges, equipment, administration, subscriptions, etc? You will be asked to show a budget, outlining how the funds will be distributed.
Access funding is available separately both to support access to applications and/or access to support the project. In the budget, applicants will be asked to give figures for the access costs of both the UK artist and the international collaborator. This is to ensure that the fund can cover all costs and will not form part of the panel’s decision-making.
Funding from this award can cover 100% of the project costs, or part-fund them if other sources of funding are available.
Collaborations need to take place between May – July 2023.
Deadline for applications: Monday 17 April, 12 noon.
