The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is inviting applications for its Internship Programme for Africa, offering young women and men an opportunity to gain practical work experience while contributing to FAO’s work in the agri-food sector.

The Internship Programme aims to attract talented and motivated young people who can bring new perspectives, innovative ideas, and recent academic knowledge to FAO’s areas of work. Through practical work assignments, interns will have the opportunity to supplement their academic knowledge with experience in a professional and international environment.

FAO works to defeat hunger and achieve food security for all, while supporting the transformation of agri-food systems to become more efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable. Through the internship experience, participants will contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and FAO’s efforts to support the 2030 Agenda.

Interns will be assigned to different fields of work according to their academic profile and the needs of the Organization. They will perform tasks and responsibilities specified in the Terms of Reference prepared by the relevant hiring office and will report to an assigned supervisor.

The programme is open to candidates who are currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree programme at a recognized educational institution or are recent graduates. Applicants must specialize in a field relevant to FAO’s mission and work, be nationals of FAO Members, and have working knowledge of at least one FAO language. Candidates should also be aged between 21 and 30 years and able to adapt to an international multicultural environment with good communication skills

The internship assignments may last from 3 months to 11 months and are offered in various locations. FAO provides a monthly stipend to interns who are not sponsored by their universities or other entities.
