The Transfyr AI Fellowship 2026–2027 is now accepting applications from outstanding graduate students, recent PhD graduates, and postdoctoral researchers who are passionate about advancing artificial intelligence and machine learning. This one-year, full-time research fellowship is designed to support exceptional individuals interested in tackling frontier AI challenges with practical scientific applications. Through the program, fellows will contribute to cutting-edge research aimed at transforming how scientific work is observed, understood, and automated using advanced AI technologies.

The fellowship focuses on developing intelligent systems capable of understanding complex scientific processes involving researchers, instruments, experiments, and real-world environments. Fellows will explore research areas such as multimodal reasoning, scientific memory, physical-world AI, real-world evaluation methods, and AI systems that can capture expert knowledge while improving scientific reproducibility. By working on these challenges, participants will contribute to the next generation of AI tools that accelerate scientific discovery and innovation.

Selected fellows will join Transfyr as full-time researchers for a 12-month period and lead independent research projects with guidance from experienced AI researchers, scientists, and technical mentors. Throughout the fellowship, participants will have access to high-performance computing infrastructure, GPUs, research datasets, and the technical resources required to develop prototypes, benchmarks, datasets, and publishable research. The collaborative research environment encourages creativity, interdisciplinary thinking, and meaningful contributions to the broader AI community.

In addition to providing an annual compensation package of $125,000 plus benefits, the fellowship offers extensive mentorship, career development opportunities, and the chance to collaborate with experts working at the intersection of artificial intelligence and scientific research. Eligibilities

  • Applicants must:
    • Be current graduate students, recent PhD graduates, or postdoctoral researchers.
    • Have a background in machine learning, computer science, computational biology, robotics, human-computer interaction, statistics, or related fields.
    • Demonstrate strong ML fundamentals and research ability.
    • Be available for a full-time commitment for 12 months starting around September 2026.
    • Be willing to work primarily from the Boston or Cambridge area.
