Casa África works to bring Africa and Spain closer. Their mission is to foster mutual understanding and strengthen relations with African countries through trust. To do this, they organise more than 200 economic, social, cultural, institutional, and political activities each year.

Seeking dialogue and mutual understanding with the civil societies of African countries. Within this framework, Casa África supports the creation of lasting Spanish-African relationships and networks of contacts at all levels. It also organises and supports meetings and forums that promote knowledge about Africa in Spain, giving priority to current issues on the African continent and to the participation of African representatives.  In the area of ​​economic diplomacy, Casa África works with Spanish professionals, companies, and investors to share information about the opportunities offered by Africa.

Casa África works to promote Africa’s immense wealth and cultural diversity and encourages cultural interactions between Spain and the countries of Africa. Casa África has always worked to develop its use of information technology to transcend geographical barriers. Casa África’s digital diplomacy takes advantage of the possibilities offered by the internet and social networks to create greater connection and dialogue between the African and Spanish publics.

Casa África is an institution of Spanish foreign policy that works to bring Africa closer to Spain by organising a wide range of activities (more than 200 each year). These allow closer and more direct relations between Spain and the countries of Africa, with a focus on Sub-Saharan Africa. The various activities of public, economic, political, and digital diplomacy promote a greater knowledge of Africa in Spain and of Spain in Africa.
From its headquarters in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, another of the fundamental objectives of Casa África is to enhance the role of the Canary Islands as a strategic platform for Africa, providing a hub for businesses, services and humanitarian aid.

Casa África launches the 12th edition of Purorrelato, its micro-story contest that aims to promote literary creation that encourages them to feel and think about Africa and to continue showing different realities that approach us to the continent, away from the stereotypes that have marked it for so long.

As in previous editions, any person over the age of 18 can participate, with a maximum of three micro-stories per author. Only Casa África staff and winners of previous editions are excluded.

The theme is free, although the micro-stories should be related to Africa in some way. The story could take place inside or outside the continent, and its degree of relation with Africa could range from a detail to the total protagonism of the story.

In addition, the micro-stories must be original, unpublished, and must not have won a prize or be pending a decision in other contests or competitions. Participants must guarantee that there are no third-party rights over the micro-stories submitted and will be responsible for any claims that may be made in this respect.

The stories received will be assessed by a jury composed of African and/or Spanish renowned experts in African literature. The deadline for submission is 16th April 2026 at 14.00 hours (GMT +0).

Benefits

The benefits will be:

  • First award: 750 euros
  • Second award: 375 euros
  • Third award: 225 euros
  • In addition to the financial awards, Casa África may grant runners-up prizes or special mentions to authors whose texts are ranked between fourth and sixth place

Eligibilities

 

  • Any person over the age of 18 can participate, with a maximum of three micro-stories per author.
  • Only Casa África staff and winners of previous editions are excluded.
  •  The micro-stories should be related to Africa in some way.
  • The micro-stories must be original, unpublished, and must not have won a prize or be pending a decision in other contests or competitions. Participants must guarantee that there are no third-party rights over the micro-stories submitted and will be responsible for any claims that may be made in this respect.
  • The micro-stories could be submitted in Spanish, English, French, or Portuguese, with a maximum length of 1500 characters (not words), including spaces and excluding the title.

Application Process

For the application, follow these steps:

  1. Download, fill in, sign, and scan THE application form. Save the generated PDF will be needed to attach it to the platform.
  2. Have a micro-stories ready
  3. Have a copy of applicants ID card or passport ready
