Call for Internet Society Early Career Fellowship 2026 is open now!!!

The Internet Society (ISOC) Early Career Fellowship is a premier global initiative designed to nurture the next generation of Internet leaders. At its core, the program is built on the philosophy that the Internet’s future depends on a diverse, multidisciplinary cadre of professionals who can navigate the complex intersection of technology, policy, and social impact. In an era where the fundamental principles of an open, globally connected, and secure Internet are under increasing pressure from fragmented regulations and cybersecurity threats, this fellowship serves as a critical bridge.

The fellowship is deeply rooted in the real-world challenges of the Internet ecosystem. It recognizes that technical experts often lack the policy vocabulary to influence governance, while policy-makers may lack the technical grounding to understand the implications of their decisions. The fellowship addresses this “knowledge gap” by providing a collaborative platform where engineers, lawyers, social scientists, and activists work together. This cross-pollination of ideas is essential for developing holistic solutions to issues like the digital divide, encryption advocacy, and infrastructure resilience.

Central to the fellowship experience is the Independent Project, which serves as the cornerstone of a fellow’s journey. This is not a theoretical exercise; it is an opportunity for participants to tackle a tangible problem within their local or regional context. Whether it involves mapping community networks in underserved areas, advocating for routing security through MANRS (Mutually Agreed Norms for Routing Security), or conducting digital literacy campaigns on end-to-end encryption, these projects represent the “doing” aspect of the fellowship. By the end of the six-month term, fellows don’t just walk away with knowledge; they leave with a completed piece of work that has moved the needle for the Internet in their community.

The curriculum is curated by some of the most respected voices in the field, including scholars from the Oxford Internet Institute and American University. The learning modules are structured to take fellows on a journey from understanding the history and architecture of the Internet to mastering the nuances of digital diplomacy and multi-stakeholder governance. The Internet Society Early Career Fellowship is about community building. It creates a lifelong network of peers who share a common mission: to defend the Internet for everyone. It is a commitment to the idea that while technology evolves rapidly, human potential and coordinated advocacy are the true drivers of a resilient and inclusive digital world.
