Call for Ecoaction Hackathon For Climate Challenge is open now!!!

The EcoAction Hackathon – Youth for Climate Action is a dynamic international online challenge designed to mobilize young European residents to confront pressing environmental issues. Organized by ADEL Slovakia under the framework of the Rural Living Lab project, this event serves as a vital platform for transforming innovative ideas into practical, impactful climate solutions, particularly emphasizing engagement from individuals in rural areas and small communities.

The Hackathon’s four categories are deliberately broad to capture a wide range of solutions, from art to technology, but they share a common thread: applicability to a real-world problem. For instance, a technological concept developed in the Innovation & Tech track might involve creating an app to optimize public transportation in remote areas to reduce carbon footprint, while a project in the Community Action track might be designing a decentralized waste management system for a village. This localized focus ensures that every idea has a direct and measurable impact on the participants’ immediate environment.

The entire framework of the Hackathon serves as a practical implementation tool for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Beyond the immediate connection to SDG 13 (Climate Action), successful community projects contribute to SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). Furthermore, the emphasis on digital solutions and new approaches strongly supports SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure). By participating, young individuals are not just competing; they are becoming active contributors to the global agenda for sustainability.

One of the most valuable benefits offered is the comprehensive mentorship package, particularly for the winning Project and Innovation concepts. The prize money provides initial seed capital, but the expert guidance is the true differentiator. Mentors, drawn from environmental NGOs and technology fields, help winners navigate the practical complexities of project execution—from refining a business model and conducting user testing to navigating bureaucratic hurdles and identifying European funding schemes for scaling up. This support transforms a winning concept from a pitch-deck idea into a viable, long-term venture.

The EcoAction Hackathon is an ideal opportunity for young visionaries to gain recognition, funding and the necessary expertise to transform their eco-ideas into tangible, real-world climate solutions, demonstrating that meaningful change can indeed start small.
