Corona Hacks is a virtual hackathon hosted by Next Gen Creators, under the brand Reinvent Hacks. It is designed to mobilize youth from the Caribbean, Africa, Pacific, and the Commonwealth, aged 15 – 29 years old, to create digital solutions to hack COVID-19. Participants are welcomed regardless of prior coding experience, as a part of our overall mandate to increase digital literacy. They will be required to join teams of 2 – 4 to develop these solutions. Participants’ solutions must be focused around six industries severely impacted by the pandemic, namely:
- Healthcare
- Business & Commerce
- Governance and Rule of Law
- Food & Water Security
- Tourism
- The Creative Industry
Objectives
- Introduce the concept of digital innovation
- Introduce youth to the necessary digital skills
- Enable collaboration between youth across the world
- Facilitate the development of innovative products and services that can serve key industries in light of the COVID-19 pandemic
- Showcase youth’s talent and ability
- Introduce traditional software developers to the global civic development space

Teams will have the opportunity to vie for the chance of winning a share of USD 20,000.
Participants will have complete access to a suite of live and recorded coding workshop sessions, and thematic workshops to spark ideas for innovation from experts in the various areas of:
- Healthcare

- Governance & Rule of Law
- Food & Water Security
- Tourism
- The Creative Industry
Eligibilities
The following are stipulations for teams formed:
- At least 1 software developer must be a part of the group
- At least 1 industry expert must be a part of the group
- Teams are permitted to submit a maximum of 3 ideas regardless of selected industry
- Teams must be 2 to 4 individuals in total
- Teams must include at least 1 female participant
- Participants must come from one of the following countries in the Caribbean, Africa, Pacific, and Commonwealth
- All participants must be youth aged 15 – 29
Application Process
- Team leads should register on the ReInvent Hacks website. If an individual does not yet possess a team, they should still register. They will have the opportunity to form teams with individuals from all over the world.
- Once registered, the team leaders will receive an email instructing the next steps for the team to join the Slack group and submit their concept note to the official Devpost page.
- Submission of concept notes by May 7, 2020 should target the COVID-19 theme and seek to address some of the issues related to the pandemic.
- Submissions will be shortlisted and those selected will be charged to build their solution in 6 days to then be Demoed in front of an international body of judges.
