EMK Center presents Mapping the Universe using 21st Century Radio Telescopes 2020.
The universe is almost 14 billion years old, but only during the last few decades, we have been able to dream about mapping this immense span of space and time. We still know very little, but astronomers are looking for a signal of 21-centimeter wavelength using 21-st century radio telescopes spanning several continents. This signal comes from Hydrogen. The universe is mostly made of Hydrogen and, therefore, the signal can be used to make a map of the whole universe in both space and time enabling us to understand both its present story and past history. In this session, Dr. Khan Asad will explain how astronomers are working together to detect this signal and how their small research group in Bangladesh is planning to make its modest contribution.
The Keynote speaker of this event is Dr. Khan Asad. He is a radio astronomer currently leading the Astronomy Research Group at Independent University, Bangladesh. He completed his MSc and Ph.D. on astronomy and astrophysics in Europe and worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at the South African Radio Astronomy Observatory.
