WHO is looking for NPO (Water, Sanitation, Health and Environment) (2308065) NPO (Water, Sanitation, Health and Environment) 2023 in Dhaka.
Job Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of Team Leader (Health Security and Emergency Response), and the overall guidance of the WHO Representative, the incumbent shall:
- Identify national priorities concerning health and environment and recommends feasible plans and strategies under the aegis of Environmental Health Unit (EHU);
- Contribute to the preparation of work plans for public health and environment (PHE) as per WHO- SEARO guidelines and in consultation with concerned programme managers and with government agencies’ counterpart, autonomous agencies, non-governmental organizations, and other relevant organizations;
- Implement WHO approved project/biennial programme activities, and monitor and facilitate the work of staff and consultants of WHO Environmental Health Unit and advise them on social, economic, technical and strategic aspects of various research and development activities;
- Contribute to capacity building and promotion of innovative activities in water supply, sanitation, hygiene, chemical safety, radiation safety, occupational and environmental health sectors, and advancing health and environment initiatives;
- Strengthen networking with the partner agencies in PHE and promote an integrated approach to problem identification and effective interventions;
- Critically review proposed, ongoing and completed research and development activities, and document and disseminate the outcomes to appropriate development partners;
- Maintain and regularly update website information in the area of specialization;
- Collaborate with relevant technical units in WHO country office and SEARO and support capacity strengthening and development, adaptation and finalization of guidelines and SOPs;
- Provide support for ongoing water, sanitation and hygiene, environmental and climate sensitive disease outbreaks such as water borne diseases and vector borne diseases;
- Represent WHO in relevant groups to enhance diseases planning and response such as the WASH cluster, and the One Health collaboration;
- Promote/showcase the work carried out by the country office in regional/global platforms and support the participation of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in regional meetings and high-level events such as Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC;
- Support the development of proposals for resource mobilization in PHE sector such as the Green Climate Fund;
- Coordinate the collation of evidence and good practices in the PHE sector, convene technical working group and expert meetings, develop technical documents, and organize in-country capacity building;
- Prepare progress reports and other relevant documents for internal and donor submission;
- Technical leadership and facilitation of key climate change and health activities -health vulnerability and adaptation assessments, implementation of health national adaptation plan, climate-resilient water and sanitation safety planning, climate resilient and environmentally sustainable health care facilities, and climate informed health surveillance and early warning systems;
- Technical facilitation and support for WASH activities -drinking water quality surveillance, WASH in health care facilities, the rollout of WHO-led global monitoring instruments for SDG-6 including joint monitoring programme for water supply and sanitation (JMP), global analysis and assessment of sanitation and drinking-water (GLAAS) and hand hygiene for all;
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Eligibilities
Job Requirements:
Education
Essential: University degree in environmental science or engineering, public health, or other relevant recognized health related degree from a recognized university
Desirable: Advanced university degree (Master’s level or above) in the disciplines listed above and with additional training in water and sanitation or climate change, and public health.
Experience
Essential: At least five (5) years of experience in climate change, environment health and water and sanitation. Experience in project design, implementation and evaluation, research, and training, monitoring and supervision in the relevant areas listed above.
Desirable: Experience in implementing climate change and health programmes such as climate resilient health systems or health-care facilities and environmental sustainability, climate sensitive disease surveillance, research on climate change and health working in an international organization, preferably the UN system; and a track record of developing policy documents, strategies, and technical guidelines.
Skills
High-level technical skills and knowledge in WASH, environmental and climate-related health issues; and the ability to design, plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate environmental health programmes and projects.
