Bangladesh Stockholm Junior Water Prize 2020 is a national competition where the winning team represents Bangladesh at the Stockholm Junior Water Prize in Sweden.

The international Stockholm Junior Water Prize (SJWP) contest is held during the World Water Week in Stockholm each August and gathers the world’s brightest young minds to create real solutions for the global water crisis. Thousands of participants from more than 30 countries compete for a spot in the international finals. Here, finalists get to meet other water innovators, make lasting connections and are inspired to solve global water problems. The goal of the competition is to inspire young people to engage in water and environmental issues.

The winner at SJWPBD is deliberated by a panel of adjudicators supplied by House of Volunteers Foundation, Bangladesh (HoV Bangladesh), which was nominated by Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) as the national organizer of SJWP for Bangladesh. WaterAid Bangladesh has joined SJWP Bangladesh National Competition as Co-organizer. From SJWPBD 2018, Gazi TV becomes the TV media partner and Radio Foorti becomes the Radio partner in order to scale up the competition to the mass people.

It’s a water research competition where participants bring up original, innovative & economical solutions to existing water problems on local, national or global context. The campaign for SJWPBD 2020 has started in November 2019. The deadline for registration and project submission in on 1st March 2020. The national round will be held anytime from 20th April to 10th May. The national winner of SJWPBD will fly to Stockholm, Sweden in August 2020 and take part in the international round of the Competition.

Participants have to write a complete project paper based on the idea they are presenting to solve a specific water problem according to the guidelines given by Stockholm International Water Institute(SIWI) available at out website. After the project submission deadline around 12 projects will be selected for the National finale, among which one will the national competition and go to Sweden to fight with more than 33 countries to win the international title.

3 mentoring session will be held during the competition. The first mentoring session is in January, the second is in February — both are to help participants before they submit their ideas. there will be another mentoring and pitching session for finalists. Mentors from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and WaterAid Bangladesh will mentor and guide participants throughout their journey.

Eligibilities

  • Team Size: Individuals or in groups of up to two students. 
  • Project Requirement: The project must enhance the quality of life, through the improvement of water quality, water resources management, water, and wastewater treatment as well as water education and social aspects of water.
  • The project may focus on local, regional, national or global topics.;
  • It is essential to adopt a research-oriented approach, that is, scientifically-accepted methodologies for investigation, experimentation, monitoring and reporting results, including statistical analysis.
  • Any high school or college student (ages 15-20, in classes 9-12). Students shall be 15 years old by August 1, 2020, and no older than 20 on September 1, 2020.

Application Process

Project Submission: This will be in the form of a written report in English. The report should not exceed 20 pages, including illustrations, lists of references and appendices. Of the 20 pages, illustrations should not exceed 5 pages. The report should be single-sided, with one-and-half line spacing, and in Times New Roman (12 points).

Submissions must include the following information:

  • A completed SJWPBD entry form   
  • Project in Word/PDF format
  • Biography (minimum of 180 words, maximum of 250 words)
  • Photo (in JPG or similar format)
  • Abstract (minimum of 250 words, maximum of 350 words)
